Burning Man 2005: Ranger Jacket
Wednesday 7 June 2006
Black Rock Rangers work in an environment which can range from sweltering to freezing in a matter of hours, especially for those of us on swing shift, where we catch the latter part of the afternoon and continue to midnight.
Part of the solution is the clever use of layers, from a lightweight long-sleeved shirt to ward off the heat and rays of the sun to Nomex fire-resistant underwear. A popular outer layer is the Ranger jacket, a Dickies 758 blanket-lined jacket with our logo embroidered on the front and back.
I've personalized my jacket with event patches; I'd like to add something more but I'm not yet sure what that'll be. (I was thinking of Scotchlight piping....)
Below you can see the RANGER and MICKEY nametapes; the latter put directly underneath the small embroidered logo on the left front. That bright splotch on the photo is the reflective patch that I had made for the Rangers this year.

![]() A close-up of the small nametape with glow-in-the-dark "cat's eyes"; something from my military days. It makes it easy to see the person in front of you in the dark.
![]() Hopefully by next year I'll have figured out additional decoration that's simultaneously functional and disarming.
