Burning Man 2005: Art Cars
Following the kids bicycling on the playa we make note of the incredible variety of art cars we pass.
We start with the vehicle on which we took the Artery tour: a mobile bar, complete with bar-stools, sound system and mounted speakers, flags, and sun shade. That's Rose in the red sun-hat, with a sleeping Lila in her lap.
Next we come to the mobile lotus flower art car, into which one steps by folding aside some of the petals. A clever bit of work, one which delighted the kids.
This bug-eyed two-story art car was pretty impressive; compare it to the school bus at right.
Of course there's a kitty cat art car; it wouldn't be Burning Man without at least one. This couple was so pleasant, so proud of their ride. The kids wanted to know where they park this when at home; on the street?
"I’ve often seen a cat without a grin,” thought Alice; “but a grin without a cat! It’s the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!" Here's a Cheshire Cat art car:
This is one of two giraffe art cars. This one is low-slung, the other is a high-mounted walking model, which takes wiggling mincing steps.
What's the best thing to wear when maintaining your art car? Why, a kilt, of course!
Another in the fleet of playa ships, this nighttime cruiser joins La Contessa on the high seas.
Let's head on over to see some of the large-scale art by which we've driven. Let's start with Dicky's Box and The Temples.
