Burning Man 2005: Kids Camp - Powered by Chazz's tacos
One of Burning Man's most difficult challenges (for me) is food. I'm an urban foodie; good food is central to my experience of things, and that's hard to do in my minimalist style of backpack-cum-car-camping. I have an MSR Whisperlite stove, which is enough to keep me alive in the high country but not enough to happily feed a family of four foodies (although the freeze-dried mountaineering food isn't too bad).
Our neighbor, Chazz, took it upon himself to make his art this year include delivering delicious tacos at the evening Kids Camp potlucks. We contributed lots of dark beer, nuts and snacks, and a few cooked dishes, but nothing came close to Chazz's delights.
![]() It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that my evening Rangering swing and graveyard shifts were powered by Chazz's tacos, and that perhaps, in a small way, the health and safety of Black Rock City were safeguarded by well-seasoned beans, guacamole, and cheese. Chazz's cheese.
