Burning Man 2006: The Belgian Waffle
The art piece Uchronia, almost universally known as The Belgian Waffle, was certainly the "big art" hit of 2006. The Belgians, we're told, absolutely hated the nickname and couldn't figure out why Uchronia wasn't more used. Funny Belgians, but they do good art (and ale).
Here our family takes some quiet time inside.
Family snack time. Because a drop in whatever makes a child nasty, uncooperative, and seriously unpleasant we make sure that the kids are involved in their own feeding and hydration. Here it's kid Clif bars. The water is in the art car; they sipped just before getting off and so they're good to go for a few more minutes. Every 10 minutes, hydration. Whether you feel thirsty or not.
Fellow Kidsvillians pose. It's said that it takes a village to raise a child; at Burning Man we experience a bit of what that was like (before our more isolated consumerist culture became our norm). I ilke it.
Leori and Jessica have ridden out to Uchronia on a special tandem bicycle which gives them both much greater range that strolling would.

Everywhere we go the kids get special attention from the citizenry. Sometimes it's magic tricks, sometimes rides, sometimes special access. It makes for a very nice vibe.
