2005 Ibiza & Iceland
That's right, you read the title correctly.
First a tiny, arid, semi-tropical island in the Mediterranean, followed by a huge, cold, freezing cold island just south of the Arctic Circle.
This could be called the Hot & Cold tour!
Ibiza and Iceland? What could we be thinking?
Well, Mom died this spring; the surviving members of the family are having a memorial service in Ibiza, where my uncle Daniel has been living for many decades. Well, not really a memorial service, but more a celebration of her life. In part it's also to show her mother, 93-year-old Omi Marga, that things go on.
And why Iceland? Well, because one thing we've learned from our travels is that after a vacation with extended family we need a vacation to recover.
Airfares were somewhat pricey by the time all agreed on a time-frame for our trip, so instead of our usual non-stop Virgin we flew Icelandic Airways and took advantage of their offer to stay over in Reykjavík without incurring a third-city stop-over fee. (I'd frequently stopped in Reykjavík, as a child, when we refueled of the way from JFK to Düsseldorf, Germany.) Of course, that meant we'd be doing five legs each way, but our kids love to fly, so I'm sure it'll be an adventure!
Both parts of the trip were interesting, and I'm happy you've chosen to come along. Pack your bags for both hot and cold, don't forget your passport, and let's head out.
We start by flying from San Francisco (SFO) to Minneapolis St. Paul (MSP).
The following is to double-check that I've made sub-text comments for every page; remove when the manual links with panos are.
