2005 Ibiza: Minneapolis St. Paul (MSP) to Keflavik (KEF)
Thursday 22 September 2005, continued.
Minneapolis St. Paul airport (MSP) has its own attractions. We find a place to rest near our gate, by a bathroom, near electrical power, and next door to an arcade. The kids have an unbelievable amount of fun in this stationary space shuttle toy.
There's security in the gate area, but one of the employees takes a shine to the kids and lets them all the way to the loading space, and then spends five minutes chatting with them. Isaac is full of airplane talk, and Lila is agreeable to the topic. Thank you, fine employee.
Still on the ground, but ready to go, my family entertains themselves with on-board magazines, safety cards, and air-sickness bags.
Once we're to cruising altitude we realize that we see a rainbow sunset through the distorting porthole in the plane's door.
We also see the aurora borealis, amazing! Unfortunately none of the photos I take actually capture this ephemeral phenomena. Rose and I are enchanted, even though we don't see much. I've never seen it before.
One of the things to which I was looking forward was the fish dinner on Icelandic Airlines, something I'd remembered from when I was a kid. Imagine my surprise when dinner was Italian. (Tasty, though.)
Here's the traditional, almost obligatory photo of me in the airplane lavatory. Dressed for comfort, complete with self-shorn haircut.
My powerhouse of a daughter finally gives up the ghost, but only after crawling into my lap and re-creating how she falls asleep most evenings (in my lap, in my office chair, on me).
Big Isaac follows shortly, and I think even Rose got a few moments of sleep.
As soon as they're getting some much-needed sleep we land at Keflavik (KEF), Iceland.
