Daniel
Friday 28 January 2005, 04:30 Pacific Time
Uncle Daniel, my mother's brother, lives on Eivissa (Ibiza), a place you may remember from my 1995 travelogue. Through the magic of broadband connectivity and iSight video cameras on our Apple Titanium PowerBooks, we were able to see each other for the first time since our 1999 Austrian family reunion.
Here you see Daniel in the comfort of his office just off the piazza of San Joan De Labritja. Actually, it's not all that comfortable today, as this semi-tropical isle is caught in the same arctic blast of air as is all of Europe. Not too far from Danny it snowed yesterday. Eivissa might get snow today.

It's mid-day, but the off-season has the tourists far away, and the arctic air gripping everything from Scandinavia to the Canary Islands has the locals cowering at home. You can see the office from which this panorama is taken.

This program is iVisit, written by Tim Dorcey, of whom I've not heard since CU-SeeMe days. We used Skype for the audio; it was breathtaking. I could hear the most minute of sounds in Daniel's office. It was as though he was sitting in the same office as I, back to back.
