2004-12 Gran Canaria: A Day of Chores
Monday 27 December 2004
A new day dawns, and first amongst chores is getting Isaac to bring his travel journal up-to-date. Lila works alongside on her coloring books.
On the far side of C. C. Yumbo is the Ferreteria Ronandez, the local hardware store, where Omi Marga goes to have her keys copied (lost a set delivering gifts on Christmas day) and to buy another cabinet lock (that key also on her lost keyring). She doesn't realize they're expecting one to take a number...
Served nonetheless, we head onward in service of our chores. C. C. San Fernando is our next destination. Omi Marga and Isaac walk hand in hand while taking turns sharing their impressions of the goings-on. I'm not sure what point Isaac was making. (Lila is riding on my head.)
GC-1 is worthy of a few moments pause.
Because it's near siesta time Omi's favorite place to get roasted chickens (for an Indonesian dish) is closed, but this one is more interesting (to my eyes). Packed solid with locals, the sights, sounds, smells, and conversations are fascinating.
Omi Marga waits at the counter, after realizing that here she's also expected to have taken a number to be served. Nonetheless, after a wait, she's able to convince a counterperson to wait upon her.
Rose and Omi Marga being served. If memory serves Omi was sharing her opinions on ready-to-eat foods. I was smelling the roasted potatoes just coming out of the rotisserie.
Holding one of five or six bags, Isaac poses with his great-grandmother at the GC-1 roundabout. Our baby stroller and Omi's pull-cart are bursting with frutas y verduras, carne, and some mundane objects purchased because it's cheaper than at our local supermercado.
We end the day with a beautiful rainbow. A first for me, we can see where the left edge of the rainbow "ends".
Tomorrow we go to two of the kids' favorite places.
