Burning Man 2002: On to Reno
It's an uphill climb, but the trusty old truck still has it. She's gone to the playa every year since 1998. Ranger Lefty just had her serviced, and she's a much better ride than when I drove her back from Burning Man 2000.
![]() Almost a mile above sea level. This is where we start seeing signs about the infamous Donner party. Some year we'll have to make a mid-year trip just to explore Emigrant Pass and these environs. But not today.
![]() The ride onwards and upwards was eerily quiet this year, probably because it was the middle of the week. Here you can see us on a stretch of highway without a single car visible in either direction. But Ranger Lefty had a good selection of tunes, which helped.
![]() The mountains look so inviting. I'd love to take a week and travel the crests (while doing a bit of peak bagging) and later the troughs (perhaps via a river). Other than there was a lot of pioneer travel through these areas, and there are still some ruts and artifacts to be seen, I don't know much about this area. My loss, I'm sure.
![]() Before I realize it we're coming up on Reno, Nevada.
