Burning Man 1997: Lamplighters of the Playa
The Lamplighters are the glue that holds the Burning Man community together when we're camped on the playa. Each evening this group of dedicated volunteers march in procession through the camps, lighting lamps along the way. The lanterns that hang between the obelisk and the Man light the way for night-time seekers to find and meditate at the foot of our soon-to-be-burned icon.
 Here's a close-up of one of the lamp bearers, with his load of lit lanterns. Thank you lamplighters, you make for a much more inviting event.
