2003 London: The Worst Food Ever
Monday 3 February 2003, continued
It's been a few hours since breakfast, and we're all somewhat hungry again. We head the two blocks toward the Tube, through the South Kensington neighborhood, when Rose realizes that she's falling deep into a calorie pit and needs to eat straight-away. She declines to chow down at a Polish restaurant and opts for a fish-and-chips dive a few doors away.
Oh, what a mistake that turns out to be. The food is reasonably inedible. Her chicken tikka marsala isn't anything close, and my fish-and-chips are adequete at best. Not to mention the unrefridgerated mayonaise. She runs next door to pick up a prawn sandwich, but it's more like ground prawn slurry. Tasty though, and Isaac eats it in order to partake in some cookies she also purchased.
Here's Rose's comic take on the horrible food karma she seems to have. Did I mention the bony kippered fish she choose for breakfast?
Getting close to being exhausted, we head back on the Tube during rush hour. With three lines down due to safety inspections, the rest of the system is a zoo. We make it back, soothing a crying Lila with breastfeeding while Rose props herself up on a vertical pole. Lila likes singing too. A yawning Lila enjoys the wind in the Underground stations and the escalators.
On our way back to Coptic Street from the Tottenham Court Road stop, we see dozens of buses lined up to handle the overflow crowds. Just amazing. I love London.
