2001 Kaua'i: Thu 1 Mar 2001
Today is our last full day on Kaua'i. We don't really have any plans, so we're just enjoying the spate of rain-free weather (although we have three yellow Gore-Tex jackets in the trunk of the convertable). We're deferring the two long hikes (Waimea Canyon; Na Pali) and two tours (scuba and snorkeling from a catamaran off the Na Pali; helicopter with lunch at the base of a waterfall) until Isaac is old enough to enjoy it. They're each a bit long - and without much chance for rest and playing - for a two-year-old.
![]() We had breakfast at Ma's Family, then swam in the ocean at Kalapaki Bay (at the site of my 1996 Kaua'i trip). Then we headed back north to Kapa'a. I did some errands, leaving Rose and Isaac sleeping in the car (with the doors locked and the engine and air conditioning running). First I took this panorama of Kapa'a town, then I stopped in to check on a few knick-knacks. To finish I stopped by a bookstore to pick up some more Hawai'ian (and one Japanese) book for Isaac. They'll make for great reading back home. (He's already hooked on a book about Tutu Nene (Mother Goose) from which he has me reading each evening.)
