2003 Scotland: Babbity Bowster, the music
Babbity Bowster was an old Scottish country dance, often used to finish a ball. Today it's a children's game. "Babbity" means "bob" and "bowster" is the wheelshaft in a watermill. In the song, "brawly" means elegant, "minnie" is an affectionate term for mother, and "gae" is gave.
My minny learned me to dance,
Wha gae you the keys to keep,
My minny gae me the keys to keep,
Now let's venture out into the Glasgow Underground, and see the city. (Actually, the Glasgow Underground goes nowhere you want to be, but we took it as part of our mass transit tradition. Glasgow is a walking city.)
