2003 Gran Canaria: Las Palmas (LPA) to London-Heathrow (LHR)
Wednesday 29 January 2003
Our last hours on the island. The kids are up around 0500; I get a bit longer to sleep thanks to my wonderful wife.
The maintenance staff are up and about shortly thereafter. Today they have to contend with getting a bit of sand out of the pool. The sand was blown to the islands from the Sahara yesterday (or was it the day before?) via a shirocco. Luckily the front never hit us, or we'd been picking sand from out teeth all day...
The sun has finally come up, and is painting rays of gold onto the other leg of the Atlantis complex. That's Heinz Kluger's apartment you see in the middle. He'll be driving all of us to the airport in a few hours.
Isaac is doing the happy dance at the toilet; today is the fourth day he's been using the toilet exclusively. We'll see if it lasts: usually a change in routine upsets toilet training, and we're about to do a pretty radical change.
Here's Isaac at our gate, at el aeropuerto de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (LPA). He's really happy, if you couldn't tell. He's got two - count 'em, two - plane trips ahead of him. And toy airplanes for the trip. Nothing better :-)
Lila taking a nap while we're waiting. She was awfully fussy last night, as was Isaac, so perhaps the travel preparation is getting to them. While the girls' club are preening or being preened...
...Isaac is enjoying the marsupial encounter in the arcade across the way. We got to the airport early, as is my wont, and things moved swimmingly, giving us a bit of free time.
Lila, now up, watches her brother. We're about to fly to el aeropuerto de Madrid/Barajas (MAD), which isn't much changed since my first write-up (from Wed 6 Sep 1995).
Lila throws up, eerily reminding us of Isaac's flu caught in Barcelona and dealt with in Casablanca (on 19 Dec 1999).
And then, sick baby and all, we're back in London.
