This satellite image of Baghdad International Airport was collected by DigitalGlobe's QuickBird satellite in January of 2003. Hundreds of U.S. soldiers will reinforce the airport overnight after U.S. forces said they seized control on Friday after battles with Iraqi forces, U.S. commanders said. Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division and the 94th battalion would arrive in coming hours to reinforce the 3rd Infantry Division which spearheaded the attack, they said. Iraqi forces are still putting up sporadic resistance in the area. (DigitalGlobe via Reuters)

A U.S. commander in the Gulf said today that U.S. special forces had raided Iraq (news - web sites)'s Tharthar Palace, about 56 miles from Baghdad, a residence of President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites). Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks said special forces were also 'denying (Iraqi) regime movement' on the road north of Baghdad toward Saddam's hometown stronghold of Tikrit.
