Burning Man 2004: San Francisco Decompression / Rangers
A month after Burning Man we reünite with our playa friends. With the family at the Castro Theater with Bubbie and Zadie watching "National Velvet", I get to volunteer for an entire shift. Just before noon I check in with Crow. Here we are filling out our radio release forms. I luck out and get a headset (much preferred to a shoulder microphone).
Ranger Lefty, in mufti, arrives from downtown on bicycle. He's just here for a short while to wallow in the vibe. I'm happy to see him. Once he leaves I get some of the DPW - Department of Public Works - crowd sitting next to us to help turn the three handicapped portapotties 90 degrees so those in wheelchairs can actually get into them. (Note for next year: curbs are okay for the other potties...) (Photo courtesy Ranger Lefty.)
Ranger Atomic and I are assigned to patrol together. We got to answer a good number of questions and even see a good amount of the goings-on. The highlight of our time together must have been finding a lost child (knowing the Point Last Seen is really important). (Photo courtesy Ranger Lefty.)
Some of our crew, late afternoon. L to R: Mickey, Atomic, Dirt Witch, Grits (DMV), ?, Binky, ?, Cypher. (Photo courtesy Ranger Lefty.)
Rangers Bob and Clip On (?) terrifying the participants.
Rangers (?) and Pluto strike a pose on Indiana Street.
Onward, to celebrate some of the attending participants.
