Burning Man 2003: Journal p. 2 Sunday, cont. - The huge 35' chute adds a grand amount to the shade structure. It'll keep the sun at bay for the entire arc of its passage. Alas, I'm defeated by this new, bigger chute. Its not like the 25' chute Ranger Lefty and I have used in years past. In the middle of the night, after signing into my first Ranger shift, I swing by camp only to see the whole family covered by a luffing monster! It's really hard to tame it in the dark, my hands unused to the knots. Monday - Monster tamed. I moved the guy cables 2 feet into the body of the chute; this modelhas more of a curve. That, plus a ladder, mallet, and daylight makes all the difference. My fingers once again know the knots. Michael Hodges, Ranger Benway, and I reunite near center camp, near the gyros.
