2002 Colorado: Helen Hunt Jackson Falls
Tuesday 09 July 2002, continued
Rather than have to bring along two mountaineering child carriers and leaving Omi Marga while hiking, we decided to skip hiking this week. Omi Marga is more fun. But the others tried several times, having their efforts frustrated by the closure of all federal parks on account of the wildfires. What we just found out today is that all the state and county parts are open, with lots of hiking trails and waterfalls. Oops.
Where was I? Oh, yes, driving up the road. Once we passed all the warning signs we arrived at Helen Hunt Jackson Falls. There's a small visitor center, a half-dozen chatty well-informed volunteers, and a good space for Isaac to run. (You'll see three Isaacs in the picture below.)
Here's a close-up of the falls. One can take a short stairway (at right) to stand on the walkway above the falls (middle). It's not tall, but it is free, refreshing, and uncrowded.
Well worth the time, I'd say.
With thunderclouds getting darker we head back down the cañon (as they spell it here) and get ready for our exciting dinner plans for the evening.
