Album 1999.10.03 (b)
From the Castro Street fair we took the San Francisco MUNI (municipal railway) underground to Forest Hills station, waited a few minutes for a bus that never came, and then strolled uphill to our next destination.
Ilana, the daughter of one of Rose's best friends, celebrated her sixth birthday at Clarendon Park, in the shadow of Sutro Tower.
Unlike the Castro (and the Mission), the warmer parts of town, the park is in the fog belt. It was cooler, and we only occasionally saw the sun.
Isaac loves the slide. No trepidation at all. After seeing other kids using it last week (at one of the playgroups we attended) he knows what to do.
Once I sit him on the edge of the ramp he lunges forward with reckless abandon. I hold on to the back of his overalls to ensure he doesn't topple off. (The photo at left only hints at the breakneck speed he's launched himself.)
Once down, he wants to go back up, even if it means climbing up the ramp.)
Wildlife in Clarendon Park is pretty tame, but Isaac was enchanted by a particularly fearless gopher. He was also pretty enchanted by a little girl to his left, and shifted his gaze back and forth between the two. The gopher kept returning, tossing dirt from his hole, nibbling the greenery, and hiding again. After the Castro Street Fair and Ilana's birthday party we were good and hungry. Back in our neighborhood we went out to sushi. Join us!
