1998 Italia: Cortina d'Ampezzo's Hotel Royal

19980227. Cortina d'Ampezzo's Hotel Royal is comfortable, a throughly pleasant place to relax after a day out-of-doors. Here's what it looks like from the main piazza. You can also see what the piazza looks like from the balcony of our sitting room.

Here's a panorama of room 26. From left to right: the entrance to the room, a wall of closets, the entrance to the bathroom, a nice king-sized bed (the confirmation fax referred to this as a "matrimonial bed"), the window through which I took the photo of the church steeple, a television mounted on the wall, and lastly, a vanity.

I really liked the wood panelling in the bathroom. Each evening the full-sized tub was put to good use, soothing tired muscles. It was invaluable the day that I first learned to snowboard; my butt was sore for three days.

Best of all was the common sitting room. It smelled great, thanks to aromatic woods being burned in the fireplace. The sun poured through the curtained windows at right, warming the room and filling it with a soothing glow. Just to the right of the sofa you can see the entrance to our room. At left is the door to the stairway; several floors below us is the breakfast room.
