1998 Italia: Cortina d'Ampezzo: Carnival
![]() We were strolling around Cortina on the day of Carnival. We'd been seeing costumes all week, but almost everyone was decked out today. Here's what our excursion looked like.
This guy, above, was opening up the hot chocolate wagon. You couldn't have a festival without it. I don't recall the explanatation, but there was a good reason that a bunch of guys get dressed up in bear costumes and sweep the streets in brooms.

A parade wove its way through town, with dignitaries, floats (actually life-size dioramas on tractors), and music.

And of course there were the kids running pell mell around town, shooting each other (and us) with Silly String.
