our bus driver bus to Cortina Finally we're on our last leg. After seeing the other dazed tourists gawking and watching the driver loading the pile of suitcases and skis I jump in and lend a hand. With a few others we get the job done quickly. We clamber onto the bus just in time to have our names crossed off the list by the tour guide. She hands us each a welcome packet, complete with ski pass and map of the area.

Our bus driver is quiet and unflappable, driving us through the countryside, coping with rushed skiers hurrying to the hills. Not that anyone on the bus would know. They're asleep.

Somehow I stay awake, taking pictures of the countryside.

At one point a beautiful mountain lake panorama passes by.

I can hardly wait until we reach Cortina. I'm tired and hungry. We pass the Olympic ski jump. The driver says we're close to the town.

We turn into the hamlet of Cortina d'Ampezzo as the bus finishes its long drive along the winding mountain roads.
