2004 Playmates Preschool Pumpkin Festival
Wednesday 27 October 2004
Today is the 2004 Playmates Preschool Pumpkin Festival. Autumn is a fun time for the kids, and the preschool kicks into high gear to have the kids learn seasonal songs, make seasonal art, as time seems to run short as one holiday after another approaches. This is a potlatch; I made my lasagne (and got lots of compliments). Here's Joelene reading a Halloween story and using a felt board to make the characters move:
![]() While the kids are inside, a half-dozen parents move the pumpkins the kids have carved all around the playground sandbox, on the sand and on all the toys and climbing structures. Then we light the candles. The main lights are extinguished and the kids are brought outside with flashlights and their parents' hands.
![]() There was a seasonal chill in the air, so after a quarter-hour the kids are happy to go back inside, despite the eerie wonder of the pumpkins. That's when everyone gets a turn at the piñata, even graduates:

![]() As the night went on we all took every chance to see how the lunar eclipse was doing.
