2004 Truckee-Donner: The California Zephyr & Piper's Patisserie
Thursday 1 July 2004
We're in downtown Truckee, just outside of the woolens shop. A deep horn sounds, and the California Zephyr heads through town, on its way back to the Bay Area.
![]() Lila enjoys the sight, while Isaac whoops and hollars with excitement.
![]() We've looked into Piper's Patisserie on each of our passes through town, but we've been on the way to doing something else. This time we stop in. First impressions: very tidy, good smell, well-stocked wine bar, great selection of foods. There's something for everyone. Okay, this was a good choice.
![]() Everyone picks their favorites and we sit at a long table with a flag draped down the middle. It's the Fourth of July later this week.
![]() Desserts are brought by the very pleasant staff. They were a big part of how much we enjoyed our meal. Thank you, ladies. (My only complaint was how overly deep-roasted the coffee tasted. Meh.)
![]() Sated, with Zadie already rolling along, we leave Tahoe-Truckee and head back home. It's been a fun few days. Thanks for coming along.
