2002 San Francico: Dykes On Bikes Parade, p. 1

We wake. Uncharacteristically it's not 0700, or even 0830, but 1000. Wow. Isaac stirs next to me. The sun pours through the skylight. We pull apart the curtains and peer by the magnolia in the rear garden towards Twin Peaks. What's special? It's the pink triangle being assembled to celebrate this weekend's events.

Looking closer we see the triangle shining bright in the morning sun. If something was to rouse us and shake us out of bed it's the big pink triangle. Isaac wants to run up the hill right away, but of course there are some chores to be done.

Looking even closer - a powerful zoom is wonderful - we can see the cadre of volunteers still assembling the triangle. I wonder what they do to protect their artwork from high wind. We don't make it up the hill (note to self: do this next year) beacuse we have a birthday party and other goings-on scheduled today.

but we do make it down to the corner of 16th and Valencia to eat at We Be Sushi and watch the Dykes on Bikes go by, just as we did a few years ago.

Alas, I must have misread the re-opening date. It's all boarded up. So we go around the corner to the Pancho Villa tacqueria for a late lunch. Lila is asleep when we arrive, Isaac is asleep when we leave.

We miss the motorcycles, but join the parade, already in progress.
