Album 2002.04.19

Not seeing eye to eye...

Well, here I am, explaining to Lila why it's taken so long to update the family digital photo album. As you can see, she's not buying it. I try several tacks, but she's just not happy to hear that updating the album just kept falling off the bottom of my To-Do list. I promise to be a bit more punctual...

Not liking the explanation

This she accepts, and so we're done with it, and we're moving on. Lila greets you, and bids you to enter this new page.

C'mon in!

Lila has just turned eight months old, Isaac is now just over 3.25 years old. Lila used to be a newborn, and then an infant, but now she's really a baby. Not a toddler yet, though. She sits up by herself, without tripoding. She isn't fond of being on her stomach, so no crawling so far. She likes to pull herself up into a standing position. Whereas she used to spend most of her days squalling and sleeping, now she's an active part of the ohana (Hawai'ian: family). She plays alongside Isaac, and plays with him when she wants to.

Isaac is, for the most part, very gentle with his baby sister. When she cries he's the first one to her side, imitating Rose's calls of "coming lee-leash".

Lila watches Isaac

The ohana frequently visits Japantown, Nihonmachi. When Isaac rises too early "the boy's club" heads out to May's Coffee Shop, a large, kid-friendly, safe space which opens at 07:30. This picture is taken from a family outing with friends; because of the large group Isaac and I got our own tiny table. Isaac is proud of his ability to use his chopsticks to eat a great variety of food: soba, edamame, misoshiru, and rice.

soba together

While in Japantown we participated in the Taiko drumming celebration of the Sakura (Plum Blossom) Festival. Actually, we three times over two weekends. That's how Isaac wound up in the Hokubei Mainichi (North American Daily).

Taiko

Here Lila shows off her new head of hair. All of a sudden her wispy baby hair became thick and very wavy, especially after Papa gives her a shower-bath.

Lila smiles

Well, we're almost done with this page. Lila certainly had a fun time, and we hope you did too. We'll send out another email when the next page is done.
