Computer Model/Name/Speed : PowerMac 7100/66 clocked chipped
to 82 Mhz, 256K Cache, 16 MB of

Problems and solutions:

The QuickCam is connected to a manual switch box ($15) and I have had no problems with it, you can even switch the input and nothing crashes, you just get a blank screen. The only thing is that CU-SeeMe seems to run slower when the QuickCam is not switched on.

only problem is a 14.4 SLIP connection...sigh, upgrading to 28.8 to see if there is change, --problems using Talk feature with my connection... either the program crashes or sometimes the mac --also problems making pt-pt connection from hardwire connection to my home connected w/ MacSLIP. (M. Sattler noted that MacSLIP might be to blame, suggested InterSLIP, but haven't had time to configure everything suitably.)

Computer Model/Name/Speed : Macintosh Powerbook 180c/33mhz
Operating System (version) : System 7.5
Make/Model/Cost of video card : No Video card
Make/Model/Cost of audio card : Built in audio (see problems and
                                solutions below)
Make/Model/Cost of camera : QuickCam $99
Make/Model/Cost of microphone : Built in mic (see problems and
                                solutions below)
Version of CU-SeeMe used : versions 0.7b15 to 0.8b3 (current)
Name/Version of TCP/IP Driver : MacTCP 2.0.4
Type of Internet connection : Modem 19.2 Global Village Mercury
                                Powerport

Problems and solutions: Powerbook 180cs have an annoying habit: they spin down the HD whenever the internal microphone is being used (to minimize background noise from the drive). This is OK when recording a sound as a system beep, but using CU-SeeMe with the HD constantly spinning down, then up, then down is frustrating. The solution? Simple: use the QuickCam as the microphone - it slows down the frame rate a bit, but not as much as spinning up/down the HD. (Alternately, an external mic other than the QuickCam may work, but I haven't gotten around to checking)
