Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge is probably the best-known landmark in San Francisco. Most natives have never walked across the span, but it's an experience not to be missed. Here's how the bridge look from a car on a very foggy day.
To get to the bridge from the Haight-Ashbury one usually drives through the Presidio of San Francisco, a former military reservation. One feature of the Park Presidio is the hundreds of euclyptus trees.
On New Year's Day 1997 Rose and I met a bunch of her friends in the parking lot at the south end of the bridge. Parking wasn't too hard to find. It was crisp and clear. We strolled to the midpoint and savored the beauty of our fair city. Then we continued to the north side parking lot, where one of the crew treated us to hot cider from a thermos bottle. We needed it; we were chilled to the bones.
Then we strolled back. Here's Rose at the bridge's middle. Here we are, almost a year before our wedding.
