2002 San Francico: Dykes On Bikes Parade, p. 4
That's right, a parade of lesbians (and supporters) stops between the Mission Delores, the seed of San Francisco de Asis, and Congregation Sha'ar Zahar (Hebrew: Gate Golden), the new gay and lesbian centered synagogue. There is some irony here, of course.
By this time Isaac is waking. His eyes, just opening, peer out from under the fleece blanket. Do you notice the rainbow heart on the baby carrier, on top of the stroller? I sewed that on when Isaac was about four months old. I wanted to show our neighbors that even though we were "breeders" we were mindful of the neighborhood culture.
Okay, back to the parade. In front of the synagogue is a gathering of Old Lesbians Organizing for Change. It's a loud, supportive crowd.
We continue, strolling behind a man wearing a rainbow jacket. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, and sometimes lavender (the color of lesbian pride).
We pass by a couple who thought enough of the march to drag out two armchairs (and their dog) to enjoy the festivities. Hey, that's Rose in the foreground!
We wrap up our marching by returing to our neighborhood, with Isaac waving a banner.
