2000 Münster - das schloss
April 2002, continued
It never ceases to amaze me how many interesting things are in or near to Münster.
Nearby, a short car drive away, is a beautiful schloss (castle or fort). This is the guardhouse of the old property.
Here is the outside of the schloss. It's a completely different kind of structure from the famous castles which can be found - and visited - along the Rhine. From this angle one can't see the moat...
...but here it is. One thing I expected to see here was slits for archers or guns. I'm not sure what their philosophy of defense was.
In the central courtyard is a spiral staircase to the second floor balcony, which we had to tread. Isaac thought this was the highlight of our visit. The souvenir shop is just outside of the camera range; their postcards are excellent.
Back where we're staying, a beautiful house which belongs to one of Omi's friends, Isaac is going nuts ferrying cars around the place. We've child-proofed the breakables as much as we can, and the owner is very child-friendly, but supervision isn't optional. [Why does this picture look strangely stretched? I have no idea.]
In his bedclothes, Isaac contiues to play, until he crashes at the end of a long day.
Tomorrow, little guy, we're going back to Ahlen, the town in which Omi and Opa lived for the majority of their lives, and all the time that I was growing up.
