1999 Austria / London / Munich: Camden Market
Camden Town, a part of London, boasts the Markets, a series of indoor and outdoor shopping venues featuring a diverse choice of items, from designer clothes to imported antiques. Consisting of the Camden Lock Market, the Camden Canal Market, and the Camden Stables Market.
The Camden Stables Market is where trendy and retro clothing and accessories are sold from shops and stalls. The best part of the shopping experience (for me, at least) was seeing the amazing decorations placed on the outsides of the shops, many of which give some hint of the wares sold within. Some of these painted plastic sculptures are two stories tall!
The Camden Lock Market, located to the west of Chalk Farm Road, between the railway bridge and the 1820s Regents canal running through the heart of Camden Town. Here you'll find stalls, shops, and artist workshops arranged in and around three open market yards and a covered market hall.
The Camden Canal Market lies to the east of the main road running between the Camden Town and Chalk Farm Underground stations. Turn off the main road into the covered entrance tunnel by the road bridge, or enter directly from the canal towpath. Once an unpretentious general market, it's now a vibrant collection of 150 stalls and shops selling a wide range of goods including fashion accessories, recorded music, clothing, jewelery, gifts, and collectables.
Next, Clapham Junction.
