Burning Man 1996: The Man

The Man is obviously the focus of the Burning Man event. Every year he's lovingly built and moved to the playa. He's placed upon a pedastal which itself is is placed upon a short 2-meter (6-foot) pyramid of hay bales. Of course, these are flammable, and we have to ask participants not to smoke when sitting on the bales, but all is good.

Here's the view from the pedastal looking back towards Merchant Camp. In the shadow you can see the rope hanging from the man. It might be that the rope in the walkway is the other part of the lifting system.

And here's the Man's neon lighted under the full moon. It all seems significant on the playa

Let's head over to the Obelisk of Books.
