Album 1999.10.20

Ahhh, autumn in the Northeast! What a wonderful time in the weathered memories of my boyhood.

A chill pervades the air and the leaves turn into a blazing rainbow of earth tones.

The seasonal culinary delights appear - hot mulled cider, pumpkin pie, and the entire Thanksgiving meal (which I always thought was the goyishe version of the Passover seder).

And if that wasn't enough, the Christmas lights and store decorations were a delight. (How often we visited New York's Fifth Avenue to see the mechanical animated window displays and heard the Salvation Army bell ringers.) Even the carols we learned to sing in our secular school's music class have become a cherished memory.

Of course, Chanukah was our little corner of the season. Different celebrations over the years, but always ours.

Then came a bittersweet New Year's Eve to cap the festivities of the past two or three months. Then the season is over, peace on earth and goodwill to all just a memory until nine months hence.

Of course, now I'm the Papa, taking my son through the seasons. This year we celebrated the coming of autumn by taking Isaac to a local pumpkin patch - courtesy of a special someone at our neighborhood community center.

The first thumbnail, above, shows Isaac, me, Pam, and bubbie Marion posing next to a scarecrow.

The second thumbnail, above, shows Rose and Isaac. I love his smile!

Which brings us to this thumbnail. Right by the entrance to the pumpkin patch were these two HUGE specimens of the species. Isaac loved to play next to and on top of these behemoths. Their orange color, and the golden hues of the straw strewn about, put me in the mood of the season.

Isaac and I pose for another photo.

Rose takes so many photos of our family. We're lucky; she makes it possible for us to have this digital album.

(Once a week - or so - I download the photos from our camera to my PowerBook, process them, create thumbnails, and then edit these pages. Rose takes the photos and helps me select which ones appear here. Thank you honey.)

Now it's time for a walk around the pumpkin patch.
