One of my favorite places to travel in all the world is the island chain of Hawai'i. Mostly relaxing, sometimes terrifyingly touristy, each of the islands has its own character. Usually I choose the island of Kaua'i, but from time to time, when needs be, I head out to O'ahu.
I enjoy the Hawai'ian culture, so Kaua'i makes sense. Rarely there's a good reason to do the touristy island paradise trip, and so Waikiki and Honolulu (on O'ahu) satisfy the urge. I'm still hoping to visit the big island and see some active volcanoes, but it hasn't happened yet. Molakai is off-limits to haole, but the other small islands merit investigation. Perhaps when the kids are a bit older...
