2000 Paris - Le Lapin Agile
The middle of April, 2002, continued.
Here are some pictures which didn't fit well elsewhere in this narrative.
Isaac loves escalators. Just before two-and-a-half, an age when most kinds aren't exactly warmed to technology, Isaac loves everything about escalators and trains. He jumps on them fearlessly, notices the differences from the ones at our local subway stop, and is usually grinning ear-to-ear while on them. Which makes this photo all the stranger (but still the only one of Isaac on a subway in Paris). I don't know why he looks so deadpan, but if memory serves it's just a relaxed moment between grins. He was running me ragged this day, up and down the multi-level shopping mall.
![]() On our way up to the Montparnasse artists colony, on the steep cobble-stone Rue des Saules, we passed this house, Le Lapin Agile (the Nimble Rabbit). It's best known, by those who know it at all, from the 1905 Pablo Picasso picture entitled "At the Lapin Agile". It's also been in paintings by other artists, such as Modigliani, Apollinaire and Utrillo.
![]() There's an annual celebration, the Fete des Vendanges, where the vintage harvested from the neighboring vineyard is celebrated. Even higher up, should you have had a good breakfast, is the Sacré-Coeur and Montparnasse.
