Hapkido: Glossary

belt
The sash tied around the waist, usually in a color to denote experince. A typical color progression would be white, yellow, orange, green, purple, blue, red, red-brown, brown, brown-black, and black. Subsequent levels of black belt may be marked on the belt tips, along with the practitioner's name and federation affiliation.

dojang
A school of martial arts. In Japanese, dojo.

gi
The loose-fitting uniform worn when training in the martial arts. There are minor variations for each branch of the martial arts, generally of little real consequence. In Japanese, dogi.

Hapkidoka, Hapkidoin, HKDist
One who practices Hapkido.
